The projects that we run are
all funded by private donations from people who believe in the work
that we do with the refugees from Burma. Because of such generous
donations from you, and others like you, we have been able to do
many things in the past year, as well as support many other organizations.
We thought you might like to know about all of the projects that
you helped to support because of your generosity and compassion.
We have been able to support grass-root trainings inside Burma
for people who are living directly under the military regime’s
brutal repression or hiding in the jungle. These trainings include
community organization, leadership and management.
-
- We have provided basic
medical supplies and sports equipment for people inside Burma
who are in desperate need of medical care and hope.
- I was able to provide
9 weeks of trainings for community social workers in two different
camps. I was also able to give a two-week “training the
trainer” course for 5 social workers.
- I was able to give 5 weeks
of training for social workers in NGOs along the border.
- A boardinghouse for boys
in Mae Ra Mo camp was able to build a new building that now houses
28 boys who have recently arrived from Burma.

- 3 different boardinghouses
in two different camps were able to buy supplies for the boys
and girls who live there: clothes, shoes, umbrellas, soap, toothbrushes,
candles, water buckets, cooking pots, eggs, vegetables.
- Richard gave two-months
of English training for English teachers and advanced students.
- One large donation funded
a KYO income generating weaving project. The youth were able to
buy 3 new looms and 9 new students have had weaving training.
They are now ready to weave the sarongs that will be distributed
throughout Mae Ra Mo camp by the major NGO.

- The KYO main office is
in town and they have many youth who come and work and stay for
a while. Transportation and food are always a problem. We were
able to help by donating a motorbike and refrigerator for the
office.
- KYO has a special celebration
every year on May 23 and we were able to support that day for
two years in a row. It is a time for all youth in the camp to
come together to play games and celebrate their culture. It is
a day that is great fun for all and brings smiles to peoples'
faces.
- Opportunities for education
beyond high school are rare and they always come at a cost that
refugees just don’t have. A few of our friends had opportunities
throughout the year and we were able to help them out so that
they could go to school.
We are now at a point in our work when we are counting on new donations
to be able to continue. If you believe in this work and care about
the lives of the people we are helping, and if you are able to make
a donation we, and many others, would greatly appreciate it.
You can make a tax-deductible
donation now or at any time throughout the year through First Baptist
Church. Make your check out to First Baptist Church and be sure
to write Partners in Education in the memo line. Send your donation
